Misunderstood facts about the world of technology that may surprise you

Technology is developing at an incredibly fast pace. With so much going on all at once, it can be hard to keep up. There is a lot of information floating around about the tech world, and with this many misconceptions have been formed. If you think you know everything there is to know about the tech world, read below and you could be shocked… Here are some of the most misunderstood facts about the world of tech that may surprise you:

The technology field is a gender-free industry open to everyone

There are many myths about the kinds of people who work in technology, a huge misconception that should be debunked is the idea that the tech industry is just for men. The idea that the tech industry is a man’s profession goes back to the very beginning of the industry when in the 1940s, computers were seen to be incredibly complicated and only something that men could understand. This has since been overlooked and women are now a huge part of the tech industry, with the number of women working in tech growing every year. At Cypher, we remove all stereotypes and encourage girls and boys to collaborate to achieve excellence!

Technology is an ever-growing industry with endless job opportunities

If you think of technology in terms of the things that you own or use on a daily basis, you’ll realise just how big the industry is. Although this can often be overlooked, a huge amount of technology is embedded in our daily lives. This includes the devices and apps that we use regularly, as well as the infrastructure that supports it all, such as the internet. Technology is an ever-growing industry, which is why we constantly see new gadgets, devices, and apps being released. As a result of the industry ever-growing, the number of job opportunities within the tech industry will only increase. Our STE(A)M and coding classes best prepare children between the ages of 5-12 for a future that will only become more technologically advanced!

Not all screen time is bad

All screen time is not bad. In fact, it can be very beneficial as long as it is used in the right way. There is a lot of talk about the negatives of screen time, although the positive impact technology can have on our young children is often missed during discussions. Research was recently carried out that showed children in households with computers perform better academically than peers without technology exposure. This statistic supports the suggestion that children should be given the opportunity to explore the world of technology. Time spent on screen can be monitored to ensure children are utilising it in a way that promotes education and development. At our camps and after-school clubs, we give children the opportunity to participate in on and off-screen activities, to ensure that children can learn in a way that works for them!
